PDF.ABLE GUIDE

What to check before merging or splitting a PDF

Check page order and digital signatures before you save. This guide covers the practical checks from opening the files to reviewing the result in PDF.ABLE.

01

For a merge, check the file order and first pages

PDFs appear in the order you add them. If a report is divided into a cover, body, and appendix, open the first page of each file before you run the merge.

Similar file names are easy to misread. Use the page title, not just a date or document number, to confirm the order. After merging, inspect both the first and last page of the new PDF.

Checklist

  • Cover and body order
  • Missing or duplicate files
  • Portrait and landscape orientation
  • The new file name

02

For a split, enter the pages you want to keep

Use a range such as 2-5 for consecutive pages, or a list such as 1, 4, 8 for individual pages. PDF.ABLE uses the page order shown in the viewer.

Printed page numbers inside a document may not match the PDF page count. Check the actual start and end in the thumbnails or page field before entering a range.

Checklist

  • First and last selected page
  • Printed numbers versus PDF pages
  • Blank pages
  • Page count in the result

03

Keep the original when a PDF has a digital signature

Merging, splitting, rotating, rearranging, or re-saving a signed PDF can invalidate its digital signature. PDF.ABLE does not create signatures or certify that an edited copy remains valid.

Keep the signed source unchanged and save your result under another name. For contracts and official submissions, confirm whether the recipient accepts an edited copy.

Checklist

  • Keep the signed source
  • Save the result under a new name
  • Check the recipient’s document rules

04

Files stay in the browser, but the result still needs review

PDF contents and file names are not sent to a PackWink server. The work runs in this browser, and nothing is saved until you choose Save.

Encrypted, damaged, very large, or complex PDFs may fail to open or preserve every feature. Check the page count and order in the preview, then reopen important saved files.

Checklist

  • Result page count
  • First and last page
  • Forms, annotations, and links
  • Whether the saved file reopens
